She was launching her fourth collection as a designer. Victoria Beckham is also known as Posh, a nickname given when she was in a famous pop band, Spice Girls in the 1990’s. Students show their designs at the World fashion show

Attending students’ fashion shows are way more interesting than attending the real shows. The reason? Well, at the students fashion shows, their designs are innovating and interesting. If there are mistakes then they are easily forgiven as they are still students. Making the effort itself to present their designs is a big thing so mistakes can be a let go.

There’s the creative process that helps to make these types of fashion shows even more interesting instead on focusing more on glamor. A couple of these students go on to make their designs appear on famous fashion shows and there were some students who were lucky enough to appear on the TV show ‘Project Runway’. Coming this 11 of March, students at The Art Institute of Seattle from the Fashion Design and Fashion Marketing programs will be showcasing their designs at their 12th annual show that will be titled “Wear in the World,” at Showbox Sodo. We can only wish them the best.

Classic Sportswear for Spring

This spring, get ready for some sportswear clothes as fashion designers decide to get inspired by sports. Young designer Alexander Wang has said so himself that he’s tired of seeing the same old black leather motorcycle jacket, a trend he, himself, created way back when he first started out in the fashion industry. Now for the spring wear, Wang decided on getting inspired by football by launching designs like reverse khaki trenches, gray sweatshirts with shoulder pads, and green camping ponchos. The designer was quoted saying that he is not interested in hard anymore.

Designs which have been inspired from sports seems to be everywhere. Just take a look at the recent fashion shows in New York, Paris, and Milan. Even New York’s fashion designer, Prabal Gurung has launched lean, leg-lengthening tropical wool pants and silk crepe button-downs in black and Yves Klein blue. The new designer says the look seems so fresh right now because it hasn’t really been done in such a long time.

All we know is that if we were little girls again, we wouldn’t miss it for the world.

CK’s Fall Collection

Designer Francisco Costa from Calvin Klein introduced his designs for the fall. The design as modern as they look, are more focused on textures and structure and Costa added a modern touch to the rounded shoulders and occasional flash of metallic. The show was a pleasant one as all the CK’s shows are.

Fashion experts who attended the event commented on the designs by stating that the times demand a more elegant presence and this was said in indication to the knee-length and lower hemlines on the designs. Designers shared the same thoughts about the CK’s designs. Costa himself noted that these designs were based on taking cues from a more regimented menswear or a less complex idea of dressing, pieces have been rendered spare and essential. The Calvin Klein designer goes on to add that proportions have been elongated and exaggerated while seams have been manipulated to an extreme.

Milan Fashion Week starts soon

The Milan Fashion Week wasn’t supposed to start this soon and guess whose idea was it for the event to begin ASAP? Anna Wintour’s! The fashion diva insisted that the show begins on February 24 but several designers weren’t ready yet to present their designs. Anna Wintour on her part was only going to be in the city for about three days and she wanted the event to get started while she was there. There was a debate going on between fashion designers whether or not they will succumb to the devilish Anna Wintour’s wishes. As you probably already know, Anna Wintour is the editor of American Vogue magazine. She is said to be the most important of the fashion industry and probably the scariest one too. She’s so popular that several characters have been made based on her real-life character both on TV and on the big screen.

Since Miss Wintour got her wishes fulfilled, the Milan Fashion Week starts on the 24th of February and will end on the first of March. Missoni, Gucci, Jil Sander, and Prada are all expected to present their designs at the show. We wish the designers at the Milan Fashion Week all the best.

London Fashion Week

Move over the New York Fashion Week event, here comes this week’s limelight stealer, the London Fashion Week. For those who don’t know, there’s a difference between the New York Fashion Week and the London Fashion Week. While the New York Fashion Week event tends to focus more on style, the London Fashion Week event tends to focus more on creativity.

The London Fashion Week started off with some unusual designs spotted on models walking the runway. So much unusual clothes that we wondered whether people will really wear some of these designs. Some fashion experts were quick to utter statements such as “Don’t pay attention to the event if you want to stay fashionable”. Speaking on the show, a fashion stylish commented that haute couture is definitely getting filtered down to the high street and this time, it’s more than ever. This has been quite a start for the fashion week in London and we can’t wait to watch what other designers have in store for us. Till then, stay fashionable!

Narciso Rodriguez @ Fashion Week

Fashion designer, Narciso Rodriguez always differed in his designs. For starters, he tries to have a certain distant look in his clothes that will set them apart from the rest. Secondly, he knows what he’s doing and such perfect examples are the way his designs are; structured, architectural, minimal and slightly sturdy.

This time for the New York Fashion Week, Mr. Rodriguez tried something different. We noticed a couple of differences, the changes made including silhouette seemed a bit loose. Then there seemed to be too much of covering specially with the beads. Some awkward positioning of clothe including the swath of fabric that has been positioned diagonally on some dresses. His designs were particular unbalanced, specially with the way the dresses shaped up but it worked for the keyhole slashes which turned out quite hot on the ramp. There was a nice one that featured a textured black-silk dress with a zip-up front that was worn with a cropped, slate-wool jacket with black sleeves.

Michael Kors @ Fashion Week

We start the day by describing a little about Michael Kors’ show we just witnessed. What were shown on the ramp were luxe cashmere, slim bodysuits, long skirts and crisp coats. The garments, some with furs and some were sparkly and had the soul of Michael Kors. Don’t get us wrong, what we meant was when you look at the clothes, you can feel the Michael Kors’ touch in it. In case you haven’t heard of him, Mr. Kors is a huge favorite among stylist, editors and retailers. The reason? He makes inspirational clothes in such a way that they have a high-class look and at the same time, can be still decent.

Fans in the form of celebrities were excitingly taking pictures of what they would want from his fall collection and that included Molly Sims and Laura Linney who had their eyes on the cashmere sweatpants with belts and the gold beaded gown with a mermaid hem. Celebrity stylist, Rachel Zoe was quoted saying that Michael really makes women look beautiful. Everyone wants to jump in the clothes from that show.” We just couldn’t agree more.

Clothes that Cover @ Fashion Week

Whatever happened to miniskirts or any mini/short garments? Seems to have gone out of fashion. At the Fashion Week, minis seemed to have taken a break and longer, well clothes that cover seemed to have taken their place. For starters, there seem to be an outburst of pants on the ramp. Quite a few designers opted for the pants look. Next would be the long slim skirts by Oscar de la Renta which would be the most suited clothes to wear during the day and Michael Kors showcased a number of clothes that reached below the knee in his show. It’s nice to see designers go the old fashion way when people had enough material to cover up their body. But the main question is why are designers opting for the longer hemline? Some were quoted saying that it is a reflection of the Great Recession.

The editor-in-chief of Marie Claire magazine had some thoughts about this stating that “There’s a general growing up of fashion after a very difficult year,” and she goes on to add that “Women don’t want dressing up to be so complicated. The hemline dropping is part of that.” Whatever is said, we love this new look, totally our style.
